A creative Animal Crossing player has recreated the iconic "Disaster Girl" meme using mobile spin-off Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. The world-famous meme depicts a young girl staring mischievously into the camera while a building burns in the background. Earlier this year, the "Disaster Girl" meme was sold as an NFT.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp follows a similar premise to the console games in the franchise, with players transforming their modest campsite into a thriving village while catching bugs, fish, and crafting. While the spin-off title isn't quite as popular as Nintendo Switch's Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it does include seasonal events, more than 100 animal friends, and lots of in-game items. Its catalog features over 1000 pieces of furniture as well as more than 300 pieces of clothing and accessories. The free-to-play Animal Crossing mobile game also has exclusive furniture items players won't find in New Horizons, though these aren't transferrable between the two titles.

Reddit user and Animal Crossing fan hobiwithin took it upon themselves to give the "Disaster Girl" meme an Animal Crossing flavor, capturing a near-perfect replica of the iconic photo. Their spin on the classic image replaces the burning building with the Little Bedroom item from the Pecan's House Cookie set, Frosty Trees obtained during the Snow Globe Shake event, and a red tractor, which replaces the fire truck shown in the original image. Villagers including Cole, Bam, and Buzz observe the fire, which is simulated with multiple campfires.

The post has made a splash on Reddit, receiving over 8000 upvotes at the time of writing, but it's also served to highlight a problem with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Redditors' responses to the post demonstrate just how much players want to see new content in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with many showing surprises at just how different Pocket Camp's items are compared to the Switch console game. It's not just the variation in items, but how they were obtained, with events and promotions that are absent from New Horizons, but available in the mobile game.

Featuring different trees unlocked through seasonal events, a hairstyle unfamiliar to ACNH players, and a doll's house obtained through a Fortune Cookie, the "Disaster Girl" recreation has inadvertently demonstrated just how little content New Horizons has when compared to other games in the series. As well as offering limited gameplay once the core gameplay loop is completed, New Horizons is also lacking a number of fan-favorite characters, including Animal Crossing coffee shop owner Brewster. Nintendo has been quiet on the future of ACNH, though it's hoped a substantial update will be on the cards for the future.
