It seems that Shin Megami Tensei V will have online functionality of some kind based on an official age rating for the game. Shin Megami Tensei V is an upcoming JRPG for Nintendo Switch, which is set in a demon-infested version of Tokyo.

The Shin Megami Tensei games are known for featuring more adult content than their contemporaries. The game has been officially in Australia, whose ratings board has detailed the content that fans can expect to see. The game won't contain any drug use, but it will have a moderate degree of violence, bad language, and adult themes. The official rating for Shin Megami Tensei V in Australia is MA 15+, due to the fact that it contains nudity and sexual content. The Shin Megami Tensei games have included female nudity among its demons, but there's a good chance that Shin Megami Tensei's infamous Mara has something to do with this rating.

The Australian Classification Board's rating has also revealed that Shin Megami Tensei V will also have "online interactivity", originally spotted by Persona Central on Twitter. There's no indication as to what this online functionality could be or how it will affect the gameplay, so it appears that Atlus still has more to reveal about the game ahead of its November release date.

The Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games have used online functions in the past. Persona 5 allowed players to call on the answers for exams by peeking online, as well as letting them perform a Network Fusion with another player once every day. It's possible that the online mode will mirror the Streetpass functionality used in a number of the Nintendo 3DS entries in the series, such as allowing players to fuse a demon with people on their friend list. It's also possible that the series might finally add an online battle mode, in the vein of the Pokémon series. An online battle mode would add a ton of replayability to the game, so long as the developer is able to balance it properly.

Regardless of what the online functionality is, the player will likely need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to use it. The Shin Megami Tensei games mostly consist of story-driven RPGs, so the online modes likely won't be a major part of the game. It won't be long until fans know more, as Shin Megami Tensei V is due to be released in a couple of months.
