Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Lucifer season 6 — revealing that the final season will return in September. Developed by Tom Kapinos, and overseen by Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich, the TV adaptation first premiered on Fox in 2016. Despite initially high viewership, ratings declined steadily, and in 2018 Fox officially canceled Lucifer after three seasons. Netflix then stepped in and saved the show. The streaming service has since consistently renewed it, even changing the original ending to greenlight Lucifer season 6.

Starring Tom Ellis in the titular role, Lucifer followed the fallen angel as he consulted with the LAPD to solve crimes (and combat various supernatural threats). Consistently aiding him in those quests and his own personal growth was Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen, D. B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, and Kevin Alejandro as Detective Dan Espinoza. Across Lucifer season 5, they dealt with the machinations of Lucifer's villainous twin brother, Michael (also Ellis), and the arrival of God (Dennis Haysbert). The events of Lucifer season 5, part 2 ultimately concluded with the incredibly sad death of Dan and Lucifer becoming the new God.

Making an appearance at Comic-Con International, Ellis, Henderson, and Modrovich shed light on what comes next. Part of that came in the form of a teaser trailer which has since been released by Netflix and revealed the release date of Lucifer season 6. The majority of the teaser was comprised of footage from Lucifer seasons 1–5, essentially serving as a recap for the various characters' journies thus far. In the process, it touched on a range of pivotal and fan-favorite moments. Ultimately, the Lucifer season 6 teaser harkened back to the pilot, with The Devil-turned-God pulled over by the very same officer. After declaring it to be his "last night in L.A.," his famous flask in hand, Lucifer drove off. The title card then revealed that Lucifer season 6 will drop on September 10, 2021. Check out the teaser trailer in full below:

During the aforementioned Comic-Con panel, Henderson and Modrovich also revealed that there would be a number of surprise returns and additions to Lucifer season 6. That will include a figure that has been mentioned but has yet to actually make an appearance. With Maze and Eve (Inbar Lavi) set to experience a few relationship issues due to a mysterious arrival, that figure could well be the famous Adam. If so, who actually will be playing him has remained a closely-guarded Lucifer secret. One of the returns, however, was confirmed to be Carol Corbett (Scott Porter), an officer that Dan was attempting to romantically set Ella up with. That and more will apparently tie into an exploration of Dan's legacy in the final season, lending credence to the idea that Lucifer season 6 will be a love letter to the show.

Primarily, however, the Lucifer season 6 teaser served as a testament to Lucifer Morningstar's evolution so far. For starters, his reaction was drastically different from the one he offered in Lucifer season 1. Rather than sardonically mocking and scorning the officer, he immediately apologized — Lucifer's love for humanity (and respect for law enforcement) having clearly sunk in.  Still, based on his tone and demeanor, Lucifer will clearly struggle with the aftermath of getting everything he'd previously desired. That fact was reflected in his clothing. He wore a white suit (with a splash of black) that perfectly echoed his lingering mischievous nature even after Lucifer's ascension from The Devil to God. For fans, however, the teaser will prove to be even better than they hoped. After all, at just over a month, the wait between Lucifer season 5, part 2's conclusion and the start of Lucifer season 6 wasn't destined to be as long as expected.
