A Red Dead Redemption 2 player recently uploaded a video of their encounter with a mysterious horseman in the game's swamps and is unsure whether it is a glitch or a ghost. The Rockstar Games open-world adventure game features supernatural elements like ghosts but has also experienced glitches that impacted gameplay in the past.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018, and players are still discovering glitches that alter certain aspects of the game. The same year of its release, users experienced a glitch where RDR2 horses would spontaneously burst into flames. Over the next couple of years, other bugs were discovered that ranged between being absurdly hilarious to completely bizarre. One glitch from this past year involved the game's protagonist, Arthur Morgan, dropping a duck carcass and watching it inexplicably float into the sky. The game's online counterpart, Red Dead Online, is not exempt from glitches in its gameplay, either. Just this past May, players found that standing on a waterwheel could launch RDR2 players into the sky, as well.

Redditor C4SOx posted a video riding through the swamps of Red Dead Redemption 2 and discovering a ghost-like horseman awaiting their arrival inside a covered bridge. In the clip, the player stops outside the bridge's entrance, and the shadowy figure before them begins to ride forward before disappearing into the mist. The user's horse is visibly spooked by the sighting, compelling the user to tell the animal to "Relax." Other fellow Red Dead Redemption 2 Redditors weren't sure whether the horseman was a glitch or not, but many agreed the sighting was certainly creepy.

While a bug in the game might comfort users startled by the sighting, Red Dead Redemption 2 features a few scenarios that point to the ghostly horseman actually being part of the gameplay. The swamps in RDR2 are a hunting ground for ghosts, and players can encounter spooky spirits like Agnes Dowd throughout the bayou. Similarly, ghastly-looking horsemen are not uncommon in Red Dead Redemption 2. One of the game's characters, Kieran Duffy, is seen with his head in his hands after being brutally decapitated during the game's "Horseman, Apocalypse" mission.

Based on the frightened response of the player's horse, it's possible the headless horseman is another undiscovered supernatural element in the gameplay. After all, Red Dead Redemption 2 is full of hidden elements that are easily missed during the initial run-through - such as items, locations, animals, and more. With that in mind, the game's thorough attention to detail certainly warrants a few playthroughs in order to get as full of an experience as possible and to potentially encounter this mysterious ghost horseman.
