The second Capcom collaboration for Monster Hunter Rise has been announced, and it's a crossover with Okami. A costume of Amaterasu from Okami will be available as free DLC and it can be worn by the player's trusty Palamute.

Okami was an action-adventure game based on Japanese mythology, where the protagonist was a canine version of Amaterasu, the sun god. It was originally released for the PS2 in 2006, but it later received an enhanced HD port, which has been released for most modern systems. The fact that Amaterasu is a dog means that she doesn't appear in as many Capcom crossovers as someone like Ryu from Street Fighter, but she has been a playable fighter in the Marvel vs. Capcom series.

The first Capcom collaboration in Monster Hunter Rise was with Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, with both games receiving crossover content. The second Capcom collaboration has been revealed in a trailer on the official Monster Hunter YouTube channel. The next collaboration will allow players to unlock a set of Palamute layered armor that is based on Amaterasu. The armor can be earned by completing an Event Quest, which will be added to the game on July 30, 2021.

The Monster Hunter series is no stranger to crossovers, with the 3DS generation of games adding all kinds of Nintendo outfits and weapons. The Palamutes were introduced in Monster Hunter Rise, so this is the first time the developers have been able to add canine costumes to the game.

The post-launch content roadmap for Monster Hunter Rise was shown at the end of the Amaterasu trailer and it confirmed that the next Capcom collaboration will be released in August, and two more will be coming in the Fall. This raises the question of whether there will be more Palamute-themed outfits on the way? Monster Hunter Rise may eventually have a Mega Man crossover, which could add a robotic Rush costume for the Palamute. If the devs want to get gory, then they could add a Cerberus costume from the Resident Evil series. It's a shame that there likely won't be any Nintendo collaborations in Monster Hunter Rise, as the game is going multiplatform when it launches on PC next year. The game is ripe for Palamute costumes based on a Nintendog, Yoshi, Poochy, or even the Duck Hunt Dog. As it stands, the game only has Capcom collaborations announced for the near future.
