According to a long-time leaker on Twitter, Nintendo is planning a Direct presentation in September which will likely focus mainly on the upcoming Metroid Dread. Nintendo has not confirmed or denied this leak at the time of writing.

Fans were pleasantly surprised to discover that the long-awaited Metroid Dread would be releasing ahead of Metroid Prime 4 this year. A return to the series' side-scrolling adventure roots, Metroid Dread will put players back in the heavily armored shoes of space warrior Samus Aran as she fights against menacing alien and robot forces. The announcement of Metroid Dread was an unexpected surprise at this year's E3, buttressed by the reveal that the game would be landing on Switch consoles in Fall 2021, just months after everyone learned of its existence. This announcement, coupled with other teases like the short Breath of the Wild 2 trailer, gave fans of the company a truly exciting showcase.

Some additional information could be just around the corner, according to leaker Samus Hunter on Twitter. This Metroid fan and long-time news source Tweeted on July 27 that "there is a Nintendo Direct scheduled for September, around the time WarioWare releases." Nintendo hasn't started its usual pre-Direct marketing, so Samus Hunter was sure to issue a disclaimer that all information is still subject to change before asserting that "Surely the focus game will be Metroid Dread, while Advance Wars and Mario Party will have sections dedicated to some new features." She goes on to claim that a new update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will likely be detailed, along with the reveal of the next Super Smash Bros. character.

With Metroid Dread planned for an October 8 release date, it's safe to assume that, if there is indeed a Nintendo Direct planned for this fall, much of the presentation will focus on that game. The upgraded Nintendo Switch OLED is releasing on the same day as Metroid Dread, so fans can likely expect some promotional material for the console refresh as well. The dark corridors of Metroid Dread seem like a perfect fit for an OLED screen, so it will be exciting to see how Nintendo cross-promotes the two releases.

Nintendo has been full of surprises this year, not the least of which being the announcement of Metroid Dread itself. The company has a lot of popular franchises under its belt, and Metroid in particular is one that players have been wanting to return to for a while. Hopefully, if the leaks are true, this Direct will give fans a good look at Samus's triumphant return.
