Groot & Rocket Star in Classic Monster Movie Fan Motion Poster

A new fan-made motion poster imagines Guardians of the Galaxy’s Rocket Raccoon and Groot in a classic monster movie. James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most entertaining films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for its titular ragtag group: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. The latter pair are introduced as mismatched bounty hunters as inseparable as Riggs and Murtaugh, Han and Chewie, or Godzilla and Anguirus.

The trash-talking, genetically engineered Raccoon and laid-back sentient tree are different in every sense of the word. In the comics and first Guardians film, the pair’s bond is equitable to that of brothers. It's a relationship strengthened by Rocket’s comprehension of the phrase “I am Groot.” Together, they are more than formidable. Even after Groot sacrifices himself in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Rocket is no longer able to fire rounds off the bipedal tree’s shoulder, Rocket becomes a father figure to the reincarnated, smaller Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Artist Scadarts recently shared a vintage monster movie poster made in collaboration with Media in Motion depicting Rocket and Groot as a pair of '60s-style kaiju. Similar to how they cause mayhem in Guardians of the Galaxy, the poster shows Rocket perched upon Groot’s shoulder. Check it out below:

In Avengers: Infinity War, Groot falls victim to Thanos’ snap, leaving Rocket without him for a span of five years. The last time audiences saw the pair they reunited in Avengers: Endgame and left Earth with Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, and Thor aboard the Milano. The characters are set to appear next in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder and then Gunn’s long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3—which should wrap up multiple storylines as the potential final film in the franchise.

While the chances of seeing Rocket and Groot terrorize cities in the MCU are rare (unless the recently-liberated multiverse takes viewers to an alternate reality where the pair are kaiju), they’re sure to cause mayhem in upcoming films. On top of that, Groot is expected to be fully grown in the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie and is rumored to be even bigger than the original Groot. Paralleling Groot’s sacrifice, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is also likely to dive into Rocket’s backstory before a teary-eyed farewell. If and when audiences do say goodbye to Groot and Rocket, they will be remembered among cinema’s most iconic duos.
