Disney's Jungle Cruise scores the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of Dwayne Johnson's career, and he's celebrating. This past weekend saw the release of Jungle Cruise, Disney's latest attempt at taking one of its theme park rides and turning it into a feature film. Once scheduled for last year, the movie was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and received a Disney+ Premier Access release in addition to its theatrical run. That so far seems to have worked out okay for Jungle Cruise, as the movie earned a better-than-expected $34 million domestically and an additional $30 million from Disney+ in its first 3 days.

Johnson stars alongside Emily Blunt in Jungle Cruise, a rollicking adventure film in the vein of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy. Blunt's Dr. Lily Houghton aims to find a mythical tree with incredible healing abilities, and she enlists Johnson's riverboat captain Frank Wolff to help her travel through the Amazon. With Lily's brother MacGregor (Jack Whitehall) tagging along for the ride, the unlikely pair square off against several enemies on their way to the legendary discovery.

With audiences now forming their own opinions about Jungle Cruise, the movie has received its official audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. By Saturday night, it had reached an impressive 94%, which, as Johnson noted on social media, is the highest one of his career. Johnson listed out a few of his other well-received projects for comparison, including Jumanji and Disney's own Moana, all of which remain in the 80s. "Just blown away. Thank you!!!" Johnson wrote. It's important to mention that Jungle Cruise's score has dipped slightly since then and currently stands at a 93%. The critics score is a lower 63%, which still registers as a fresh for Rotten Tomatoes. The general consensus for Jungle Cruise seems to be that it is a fun adventure, but isn't quite perfect. Nonetheless, it so far appears to be a crowd-pleaser that has likely resonated with families eager for some summer entertainment. That it stands as Johnson's most successful movie on Rotten Tomatoes speaks to how audiences are enjoying it.

All of this could perhaps spur forward a Jungle Cruise 2. Johnson previously said a sequel is in early development at Disney, and positive reactions from audiences can show the studio there's a hunger for more adventures set within this world. The creation of a sequel will also depend on Jungle Cruise's financial success, but it's a bit too soon to determine its long-term prospects. For now, though, Jungle Cruise is off to a solid start, and Johnson is feeling the love.
