As production on Clerks III continues, the film's writer and director, Kevin Smith, tweeted at the San Jose Sharks for help, and they responded. Clerks III has only been in production for a few days, as Smith works to bring the long-gestating sequel to his devoted fans. The third film is said to take place mostly at the original film's location, the Quick Stop, and it's slated to bring back the same characters that started it all. Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson are back as Dante and Randal, and of course, it wouldn't be a Clerks movie without Jason Mewes and Smith as Jay and Silent Bob.

The plot of Clerks III centers on Randal bouncing back from a heart attack, much like Smith did in his real life. With a new lease on life, Randal enlists the help of the others to make a movie about the Quick Stop and their lives. The idea is filled with meta concepts pulled from Smith's personal story, and as the characters look to recreate their time at the Quick Stop, Smith wants a very specific hat to pull it all together. However, it would seem as though the standard avenues were of no help, so Smith turned to Twitter.

The hat in question is an old San Jose Sharks hat that Jay wore in the first Clerks film. Smith tweeted at the San Jose Sharks in hopes of getting permission to use the hat in Clerks III. According to Smith, he even enlisted the help of another NHL team, the New Jersey Devils, but still couldn't get the result he was looking for. Luckily, Jonathan Becher, the president of the San Jose Sharks, saw the tweet and responded with "We got you," before adding a throwback quote to the original Clerks by saying, "I wasn't even supposed to be here today."

Given the plot of Clerks III, it would seem as though the characters, just like Smith himself, are working to recreate moments from the first film for their own movie. So while getting permission to use the hat may seem like a small victory, it will add a level of authenticity to the world Smith has created with his "View Askewniverse" films. Plus, Smith is an avid hockey fan, so getting help from the Sharks likely serves as a personal highlight, especially since Becher appears to be a fan of his.

Clerks III looks to serve up the humor and heart Smith's fans have come to love, and it also looks to continue where Clerks II left off. Though the original Clerks III script has likely gone through substantial changes during its decade-plus gestation, with the original draft being written to help star Jason Mewes get off drugs, and now the story seems to be more of a celebration of Smith surviving his near-fatal heart attack.  With Smith always being eager to share details on his projects, more Clerks III news is imminent.
