A nautically-themed update for Rust will allow players to encounter marine animals and travel underwater in a yellow submarine. The multiplayer survival game, developed by Facepunch Studios, was released as an early access title back in 2013. Since its full release in 2018, Rust has been continually updated by Facepunch with new weapons, vehicles and locations.

Rust continues to receive updates which help to improve and expand the multiplayer survival title. A recent update in June added a contact and reputation system to Rust, allowing players to track their relationships with other player-controlled survivalists. An entirely new tab was added to the game's menu which tracks every other user that the player has had an encounter with. Those that kill the player are automatically tagged as an enemy, allowing survivors to more easily keep track of those they should avoid or attack on sight. Meanwhile, other users can also be marked as "friendly" if they were peaceful, or even helpful, toward the player. A previous update back in February 2021 also added multiple quality-of-life features to Rust such as a Software Gamemode and automated delivery drones for the marketplace.

A brand-new update for Rust, the Underwater Update, has been revealed by Facepunch Studios. The survival game has received brand-new features that will allow players to explore the world's oceans. Underwater labs will act as procedurally-generated dungeons which players can access by purchasing a submarine from a fishing village. Players can also explore new dive sites, in which they can defeat powerful shark enemies to earn quality rewards. The newly-added speargun is highly effective underwater, giving players a fighting chance against the beasts. Those who prefer to stay above water can also now partake in a fishing activity in order to gather some tasty nautical morsels. Rust's Underwater Update launches on August 6.

While Rust released on PC more than seven years ago, the survival game just recently came to home consoles. Reviews of Rust Console Edition were mixed, spawning praise for the title's immersive nature and performance but criticism for its clunky gameplay and controls. On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Rust maintains a steady frame rate and exceptional graphics, but semi-frequent bugs often ruin the experience.

Rust's new Underwater Update looks to add an impressive amount of content to an already expansive survival game. Exploring underwater labs, battling giant sharks and fishing on the dock are sure to keep the game's playerbase busy for quite some time. While players have always struggled to last on the rocky shores of Rust, even more adventure now awaits those that dare to embrace the depths below.
