Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become one of the most popular titles on the Nintendo Switch since its release in March of 2020. Releasing near the beginning of major lockdowns related to the ongoing pandemic, many fans flocked to the cozy simulation game during their extended time at home. Now, the UK National Video Game Museum is honoring Animal Crossing New Horizons' incredible success and sharing the stories of some of the title's legions of fans.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has seen a plethora of unique and creative fan content over the year and a half of the game's life. Fans have created spectacular homages to their favorite games through the versatility of the title's construction features. Custom designs have allowed fans to re-create their favorite outfits or even experiment with the game's pixel fashion. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become an iconic Switch title and, much like the in-game fish and bugs, will now be featured in its own museum exhibit.

The UK National Video Game Museum officially unveiled its Animal Crossing Diaries online exhibit, focusing on the stories of some of the game's many passionate players. The exhibit's many different stories feature fans exploring some of the game's most well-known elements, ranging from fashion to fan-created minigames. The exhibit also shows some fans' creative attempts to show their own cultural heritage within Animal Crossing. The exhibit features five different cohesive themes among its stories, ranging from "Keeping a Routine" to "Staying in Touch."

The exhibit also features a detailed breakdown of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons in-game events that have happened since its release, as well as a history of the Animal Crossing franchise as a whole. Animal Crossing creator Katsuya Eguchi gives a brief testimonial on how the idea of Animal Crossing was originally conceived, making reference to the loneliness he felt when first moving to Kyoto to work with Nintendo. He also made reference to the three core themes behind Animal Crossing: "Family, friendship, and community,." These themes are put on display throughout the museum's exhibit.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been a fan favorite throughout its lifespan and has shattered several records for Nintendo. Earlier this year, the title broke Nintendo of Europe's one-year sales record and was the best-selling Switch title in Japan only a year after its release. The game has frequently topped sales charts and stands as one of Nintendo's fastest-selling titles of all time, with over 33 million copies sold to date. With Nintendo confirming further updates for the title through the end of 2021, Animal Crossing: New Horizons looks to maintain its status as one of the top games on Nintendo Switch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
