WandaVision Star Welcomes Uncle Shang-Chi To MCU with Stock Photo Meme

WandaVision star Julian Hilliard welcomes Shang-Chi to the Marvel family with another funny addition of the Simu Liu stock photo meme. While Hilliard made his MCU debut earlier this year as Billy (aka the future Wiccan) on the Disney+ series WandaVision, Liu's arrival has been far more recent. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived in theaters last weekend to record-breaking numbers after being delayed from February by the coronavirus pandemic. Liu stars as the titular hero, a skilled fighter who was raised by his father (Tony Leung's Wenwu) to be an assassin.

Shang-Chi's entrance into the MCU has been nothing short of triumphant. The movie has received some of the best reviews of the entire franchise, particularly from fans, who have blessed Shang-Chi with a 98% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, Shang-Chi just posted the best second weekend numbers since late 2019, further cementing the film as a hit. Liu himself has become an overnight sensation, which has only increased thanks to his delightful online presence.

Prior to becoming a Marvel hero, Liu took a gig posing for stock photos. Since Shang-Chi's debut, they've gone viral and inspired countless memes. One such picture put a smiling Liu in a pivotal moment from WandaVision, wherein the titular characters (Scarlet Witch and Vision) gather with their children for the final battle. Hilliard spotted it online and responded with an enthusiastic "Uncle #ShangChi!!!" Numerous MCU stars have welcomed Liu and the rest of the Shang-Chi cast to the franchise in recent days, including Brie Larson and Chris Hemsworth. Hilliard's welcome is on the sillier side, but it also fits with Liu's own reactions to Shang-Chi's debut. After news of its record-breaking opening weekend arrived, Liu reacted with a fitting stock photo. Fans have been all too happy to count him among the Marvel family, and there's a lot of interest surrounding when he might turn up next.

So far, though, it remains to be seen when Liu will play Shang-Chi again. Marvel hasn't announced anything just yet, though some fans have begun to speculate that he could appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If that were to be the case, Liu would get to star alongside his new Marvel "sister," as Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch is in Doctor Strange 2 as well. Right now, everything is up in the air, but hopefully Marvel will see fit to confirm things in the coming months. After a welcome as happy as this one, Liu better be suiting up again sooner rather than later.
