In a recent announcement, Total War: Warhammer 3 was officially delayed from being released in late 2021 instead to early 2022. Creative Assembly CPO Robert Bartholomew took to Twitter today to announce the delay and proactively thank the fanbase for its patience regarding the changes.

The game was announced on February 3 and will be the latest in the series and the first Total War: Warhammer game released since 2017. Like its predecessors, Total War: Warhammer 3 will feature both real-time tactics as well as turn-based strategy. Also like the previous games, it brings the Total War series to Games Workshop's Warhammer universe.

The original release timeline had Total War: Warhammer 3 set to be brought out to the public sometime at the end of this year. According to the statement released today, the developers "have made the decision to give it a little more time" by delaying the launch of the game from 2021 to early 2022. On top of this, Bartholomew notes that the team will continue to provide updates about its actual release date and that the wait, "won't be much longer." The entire Total War and Warhammer collaboration has been going on for nearly a decade and Bartholomew emphasized that this decision is in the best interest of everyone involved.

Bartholomew cites that the prevailing reason behind this decision was to give the developers more time to produce a "stronger release." Though not mentioned, the GDC found that a number of delays by developers were directly caused by circumstances related to the pandemic. With restrictions still a part of everyday life and circumstances dependent on case numbers, it can be difficult for larger workplaces to maintain development timelines.

Though this delay may not sit well with every fan of the series, there is reason for fans to have patience. Total War and Warhammer may not have seemed like an exact fit before their first collaboration but have since produced two well-recieved games. Both Total War: Warhammer and its sequel have won positive reviews and have become beloved by players of both series.

But delays of titles don't always guarantee results. And, without a specific date announced as of this writing, it is unclear when exactly players will be able to get their hands on the game. Until then, players just have Total War: Warhammer 3's trailer to enjoy and are going to have to keep track of the developer updates to come.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is in development and will release for PC in 2022
