Chris Pratt has signed on to lead a new action-comedy film called Stranded Asset. The actor first rose to prominence for his role as Andy Dwyer in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. This led to supporting roles in films like Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty, and Her. However, it wasn't until his well-known turn as Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy that Pratt established himself as a leading man. Shortly after, he landed another career-defining role in Universal's Jurrasic World and has starred in both franchises ever since.

Pratt also starred in another potential franchise starter, The Tomorrow War, earlier this year. The science-fiction film was originally set for a theatrical release from Paramount, but it was sold off to Amazon for a streaming release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Also starring Sam Richardson, The Tomorrow War follows a mix of soldiers and civilians who are sent into the future to ward off an alien invasion. Though the film split critics right down the middle, it was successful enough for the studio to begin developing a sequel.

Now, Pratt is adding another project to his already busy schedule. According to THR, the actor has signed on to lead an action-comedy titled Stranded Asset. The project will keep him with Universal for the time being and reunite him with his Tomorrow War co-star, Sam Richardson. Plot details are under wraps, but the script is being penned by Jen D’Angelo (Hocus Pocus 2) and Richardson. Pratt will produce under his Indivisible Productions banner, which has a first-look deal with the studio.

Pratt will also be reprising his two most popular roles as Owen Grady in Jurassic World: Dominion, set to drop on June 10, 2022, and Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, scheduled to debut on May 5, 2023. Given that both of these films are likely the last in their respective trilogies, Pratt is wise to be lining up projects left and right. He will also be starring in a remake of Saigon Bodyguards which he's developing alongside the Russo Brothers.

Since starring in Parks and Rec as the lovable doofus Andy Dwyer, Pratt has done a lot to shed this persona and cultivate his image as a full-fledged action star that still leans on his comedic chops. Given that it's being billed as an action-comedy, Stranded Asset seems to be more in line with Pratt's strengths as an actor as opposed to the more self-serious Tomorrow War.
