The Humans trailer shows the Blake family reunited at an unsettling Thanksgiving dinner. The upcoming film is written and directed by Stephen Karam in his feature film debut that will be based on his one-act Broadway play of the same name. The story revolves around the Blake family gathering together at Thanksgiving in a small, run-down New York City apartment, dealing with the struggles and horror of mental illness and surviving in the current economy. The play was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and won four Tony Awards including Best Play.

Now, A24, who will distribute the adaptation, has dropped a trailer for The Humans, which is set to premiere in theaters and on Showtime this Thanksgiving. The cast will include Oscar nominees Richard Jenkins, June Squibb, and Steven Yeun, as well as Amy Schumer, Beanie Feldstein, who can currently be seen as Monica Lewinsky on Impeachment: American Crime Story, and Jayne Houdyshell, who reprises her Tony-winning role in the film. The trailer can be viewed below:

Little is known currently about how the upcoming movie will be similar to the 2016 play, but the trailer has certainly captured the disturbing atmosphere of confined living in New York City and the reality of the lower class in seclusion with the floor levels. It is common with play adaptations that certain elements of the story will be taken out or rearranged to suit the movie that would otherwise not work or be necessary on stage. However, with Karam having control of the script and the camera, it is likely that The Humans will retain its core structure and that any changes will not interfere with the telling of the story. Time will tell when The Humans premieres November 24.
