Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah show off their Batgirl excitement as they continue developing the DC movie. Warner Bros. and DC Films are finally starting to figure out the future of the DC Extended Universe and build a slate of realistic projects. The future of the DCEU is expanding beyond theatrical movies, though, as HBO Max will be the exclusive home to select movies and TV shows. This includes everything from John Cena's Peacemaker series, multiple The Batman spinoff shows, and a Batgirl movie.

Development on Batgirl has been underway for several years now, with the movie originally entering the DCEU's future as a project for Joss Whedon to direct after handling Justice League's reshoots. Whedon eventually left the project and opened the door for Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to step in. Batgirl took a major step forward recently when it was announced that In the Heights star Leslie Grace will play Barbara Gordon in the HBO Max movie. Details on the film are otherwise limited to the public, but Fallah and Arbi are highlighting their excitement to make Batgirl using social media.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah both shared behind-the-scenes looks at Batgirl's development on Instagram recently. Arbi shared a fun photo on Instagram of him with a Batman symbol on the carpet he's standing on. His caption teases that this is the directing duo's office to prep Batgirl. Fallah followed up Arbi's post by taking a selfie with the door to their office and posting the image on his Instagram story. Both posts show off their excitement for Batgirl as the development process continues.

The shared excitement of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will hopefully result in more Batgirl news coming soon. DC has yet to announce when the movie will be released, but production listings have revealed that filming begins this year. With a November start date reported, it won't be long before Arbi and Fallah are out of these offices and behind the camera on set. This also means that Batgirl could be out sometime in 2022 on HBO Max. It is possible that a confirmation of this release plan and a tentative date will come during DC FanDome 2021.

As Batgirl continues to near the start of filming and the end of its development, fans should also soon learn who else will be in the movie. J.K. Simmons is reportedly returning to play Commissioner Jim Gordon and Batgirl's father after briefly appearing in Justice League. Other DCEU characters are not confirmed to appear so far, and Leslie Grace indicates Batman won't be seen in Batgirl. Still, with rumors that Firefly is the film's villain and other supporting characters needed, more casting announcements should be on the horizon. As news continues to roll in and production begins, hopefully Arbi and Fallah keep teasing Batgirl on social media.
