With God of War: Ragnarok having finally received a proper gameplay reveal at the PlayStation Showcase earlier this September, fans are as excited as ever for the much-anticipated sequel to 2018’s God of War reboot. Understandably so, as Sony Santa Monica’s reimagining of the series was incredibly well-received, earning itself a 94 Metacritic score and several Game Of The Year awards.

Ragnarok looks to continue the story of the tortured Spartan warrior Kratos and his now-older son Atreus, with the pair interacting and battle with a variety of Norse gods. God of War: Ragnarok is said to be the end of the franchise's Norse storyline, which is somewhat unexpected, as it is only the second Norse game. Still, with the upcoming sequel set to release sometime in 2022, fans have begun celebrating the incoming title by creating some incredible fan art.

Reddit user RammsteinAro has created a downright awe-inspiring drawing of series protagonist Kratos. Posted to the God of War Reddit community, RammsteinAro’s striking piece features a menacing-looking Kratos adorned in richly detailed armor and with his iconic leviathan axe. The eye-catching pops of color and immaculate level of detail really bring the Ghost of Sparta’s likeness to life.

RammsteinAro’s work has been understandably praised by other Reddit users. The drawing has earned nearly 800 upvotes as of writing and has started a healthy discussion within the community. Fans are praising RammsteinAro’s rendition for its ridiculous detail and obvious required talent. The art certainly does an excellent job of conveying Kratos’ physically imposing stature and look from God of War: Ragnarok.

With God of War being such a beloved and celebrated title, it makes sense that fans are so excited to see where the sequel takes the story. God of War: Ragnarok is switching directors, with the reboot’s Cory Barlog stepping aside to work on a different unnamed project while longtime series designer Eric Williams takes the helm. Fans shouldn’t have anything to fear, however, as Williams has extensive experience with the franchise, and the God of War series has changed directors several times throughout its lengthy history.

God of War: Ragnarok wasn’t the only highly-anticipated title shown off at the PlayStation Showcase Event, either. Insomniac Games announced the PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with a gorgeous cinematic trailer, for example. Classic Bioware RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has a surprise remake revealed, too. Still, God of War: Ragnarok was likely the highlight of the showcase for many fans if art pieces like RammsteinAro’s are anything to go by.

God of War: Ragnarok is set to release in 2022 for the PS4 and PS5.
