Tom Cruise lands a helicopter in the English countryside while performing and filming parachute jumps for Mission: Impossible 7. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible - Fallout's writer and director, Christopher McQuarrie, is returning for the seventh and eighth installments in the long-running franchise. Cruise will return as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt alongside returning cast members Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and newcomers Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff. Henry Czerny will also reprise his role as former IMF Director Eugene Kittridge from the first film.

Originally, Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 were intended to be shot back-to-back, with summer 2021 and 2022 release dates, before production shutdowns, delays, and/or complications due to the spread of COVID-19. The films will now release on September 30, 2022, and July 7, 2023. Regardless, the production has managed to film in locations as diverse as Norway, Rome, and the UK and is set to feature some of the franchise’s most thrilling stunts yet, as evident by photos of Cruise and his helicopter all over the English countryside.

Per The Sun, Cruise dropped in on hikers while filming Mission: Impossible 7 over the weekend. Andras Katica and friend Tutyi were enjoying a day in the UK’s Lake District when they heard a chopper hovering overhead. The next thing they knew, a group of men and Cruise jumped out. The action star took a picture with the hikers before proceeding to carry out yet another parachute jump from the aforementioned helicopter, which he’s been seen doing a lot recently.

For those unaware, Cruise is a certified pilot with hours of flight experience and has also done many jumps. In Mission: Impossible – Fallout, in addition to piloting a helicopter in an invigorating chase, he also jumped from a plane. Cruise, now 59 years old, is renowned for performing his death-dying stunts; he climbed the Burji Khalifa in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and hung onto the side of a plane when it took off for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Every new entry in the franchise showcases action sequences more thrilling than its predecessor. Mission: Impossible 7 has hyped stunts where he drives a dirt bike off a cliff before free-falling and finally pulling his parachute, as well as another massive stunt involving a train.

It’s a thrill for fans encountering Cruise while on a hike, but this most recent feat seems relatively modest compared to what he’s done in the past, and that’s saying something. Still, when Cruise returns in Mission: Impossible 7, the action ante will be upped even more. In addition to Cruise, Hayley Atwell and Rebecca Ferguson have posted pictures on social media of them preparing for the next IMF mission as well. That being said, these behind-the-scenes glimpses at Cruise’s renowned stunt work are great marketing for what could be his final outings in the franchise.
