Actor Sung Kang says he'd like to see Denzel Washington join The Fast and The Furious franchise. Kang plays Han, who was first introduced in The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift and later appeared in the follow-up sequels where his character supposedly met his demise at the hands of Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) in Fast & Furious 6. His character reappeared earlier this year in F9, very much alive and back with Vin Diesel and his crew in the latest entry of the mega-successful Fast franchise.

Denzel Washington most recently appeared in the thriller, The Little Things, opposite Rami Malek and Jared Leto. The actor just wrapped a starring role in Joel Coen's latest, an adaptation of Macbeth, entitled The Tragedy of Macbeth alongside Frances McDormand and Brendan Gleeson. Washington is also releasing a new directorial effort this year, the drama A Journal For Jordan, starring Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams.

While talking to Screen Rant, Sung Kang mentioned that he is a huge Denzel fan and would love to see him again, potentially in a role in The Fast and The Furious franchise. Kang says that there was initially some discussion for Washington to join the latest effort, possibly as Dom's father or something of the like (that role eventually went to J.D. Pardo in the film). Kang also elaborated that early on, the question was whether or not an actor like Denzel Washington would have to be dead or alive, presumably as a character in real-time or in a flashback. Read what Kang had to say below:

"There was talk that Denzel Washington was going to be in our film, and I think he was initially maybe going to play Vin's dad, or something like that? I'm a huge Denzel fan, so I would love to see him again, and share the screen with him, so someone like him. And then early on, a similar question was asked, "Does this person have to be alive? Can it be a dead person?"

The Fast and The Furious franchise has been steadily adding seasoned and/or notable actors in varying roles, including Kurt Russell, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Tony Jaa, Jason Statham, and even Idris Elba in the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. There's still a mysterious character working behind the shadows being teased in the films, which Vin Diesel says is ending with the 11th entry in the series. While more spinoffs are almost assured, there's certainly a path that the filmmakers could take to tie a knot on the current storyline and let things branch out from there, peppering in some big names along the way.

Washington would be the biggest "get" for the franchise yet, however, and he would certainly raise the pedigree of the series. Getting Washington would be tricky, however, as the only sequel he's done is for The Equalizer 2, and he's thus far avoided franchises otherwise, sticking mainly to one-and-done style films that tell a complete story in one sitting. The Oscar-winning actor has chosen mostly to work with certain filmmakers over-and-over again, rather than milking a franchise, so it seems like he'd have to be more sold on director Justin Lin than on the franchise itself. Washington could choose to cut loose a little and have some fun in the franchise pool, but convincing him to dip his toe in The Fast and The Furious waters probably won't be easy.
