Tom Hardy Jokingly Explains Why His Dog Isn't In Venom 2

Recommended Posts

Tom Hardy joked about the lack of his dog's involvement in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Set within Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the Venom sequel will open in theaters in the coming weeks. The film sees the return of Hardy's Eddie Brock, a journalist who has been infected by the alien symbiote Venom. Venom imbues Brock with super-human abilities and, in the process, causes his life to descend into chaos. Having first appeared in Spider-Man 3 in 2007, the character Venom was the subject of his own film in 2018, with Venom helmed by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer.

Andy Serkis takes over directorial duties for Venom 2, who is best known for his groundbreaking motion-capture performances in The Lord of the Rings and Planet of the Apes franchises. Hardy first approached Serkis about directing Venom 2, wanting to work with the actor-turned-director and impressed with his experience creating rich, fantastical worlds. The sequel will also see the return of Michelle Williams and new cast members Woody Harrelson and Naomie Harris. Harrelson had briefly teased his role as Cletus Kasady in a Venom mid-credits scene.

While promoting Venom 2's release next month, Hardy told Collider why Blue, his French bulldog, wouldn't appear in the film. Hardy jokingly suggested that Blue is a bit camera shy, preferring to work behind the scenes. Serkis, who joined Hardy for the interview, chimed in as well. "Occasionally [he's] a good Venom reference," the director said while examining the dog's wrinkled visage. Check out Hardy's response below:

‚ÄúBlue‚Äôs kind of behind the scenes, you know? He operates behind the camera, mainly.‚ÄĚ

It isn't the French bulldog's first exposure to the Venom 2 press tour. Blue appeared at an exclusive Venom fan event in Leicester Square, London, in September. Despite his alleged predilection towards off-camera action, Blue looked calm and comfortable soaking up the limelight. The actor, a notorious dog lover, had previously brought his then-dog, Woody, to the premiere of Legend in 2015. Woody passed away in 2017.

It's high time that Blue is enjoying the Venom press tour. Initially slated for an October 2020 release, the upcoming Venom 2 was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There were additional concerns that the film would be pushed back even further, but Venom: Let There Be Carnage will officially be released on October 1, 2021, in the U.S. Even if no furry friends will be making an appearance, fans can look forward to other toothsome, wild creatures gracing the screen.
