God of War Fans Share Theories About Tyr and His Fate in Ragnarok

Following the reveal trailer of God of War Ragnarok at the recent PlayStation Showcase event, many fans are curious to see what direction the narrative takes. Various unresolved plot events that occurred during the previous God of War entry have left many players wondering how God of War Ragnarok will expand on what came before it. To the point where some players have already started theorizing.

It's become common for fan communities to analyze and predict what will happen in a new, upcoming installment of any given piece of media, and God of War is no exception. The sheer number of God of War fan theories that have surfaced online is staggering, and considering the appearance of Tyr in the newest trailer for God of War Ragnarok, fans have had a lot to say on the matter.

A Reddit user noticed that Tyr's left arm is covered in what appear to be Egyptian hieroglyphics, whereas the other arm has no discernable tattoos. The user seems to think that Tyr will at some point lose his right arm and will end up being the one to die in Atreus' lap as depicted in the mural instead of Kratos at the end of God of War (2018). Given Tyr's relation to actual Norse mythology, this theory doesn't seem to be that far out of the realm of possibility.

In Norse mythology, Tyr actually is missing his right arm, as it was devoured by Fenrir, a wolf sired by Loki and Angrboda. Considering Loki's involvement in God of War, as well as the appearance of Angrboda in God of War Ragnarok, this could indicate a significant plot point in the upcoming game. Although, as evidenced by previous God of War games, not every aspect of mythological storytelling is accurately addressed.

However, what's also very interesting are the hieroglyphics tattooed onto Tyr's left arm, which many other Reddit users discussed at great length under the initial post. It was confirmed that God of War would be ending the Norse story after only two games, so the hieroglyphics could indicate that the next God of War sub-series to occur will take place in Egypt.

In any case, the release of God of War Ragnarok is still a long way away, and a lot can change during that timeframe. Not to mention that there's likely a lot of secrets that Sony Santa Monica intends to keep hidden until the game is finally released. After all, nobody expected the Blades of Chaos to be in God of War (2018) and yet, they made an appearance anyway.
