Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Fan Wants To See A Suit Based On Spider-Man PS1

Marvel's Spider-Man's wilder cosmetics range from cartoony to eccentric, such as the Spider-Clan Suit or the Spirit Spider Suit. These varied costumes clearly demonstrate that Insomniac Games is willing to get creative with their cosmetic selection and design process, meaning that any outfit request is valid.

While modern graphics have surpassed polygonal textures by a mile, gamers continue to reminisce and favor nostalgic characters from the PS1. For example, Spider-Man's low-polygon character models from original PlayStation titles like Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, are beloved by many. Recently, a fan has shared a request concept for Marvel's Spider-Man that would replicate these classic, low-poly models.

ShotDinner1847 tosses their wishlist idea in the ring, asking if anyone else in the community would like to see a skin cosmetic that harkens back to PS1 graphics. With side-by-side image comparisons, ShotDinner1847 depicts Marvel's Spider-Man's Advanced Suit in comparison to a low-poly Spider-Man model. The latter is devoid of the finer detailing that Marvel's Spider-Man's suit cosmetics pride themselves on, but perhaps that would make for interesting Photo Mode shots.

However, there are multiple different Spider-Man models throughout different platform editions for Spider-Man and other retro titles. Gamers may notice that the PS1 character model did not have a web pattern featured on its suit, while the sequel's game did. Likewise, ShotDinner1847 claims that "the Sega version had webs in the 1st one", and other fans have also chimed in to state that the PC and Dreamcast editions featured webs on Spider-Man's costume as well.

ShotDinner1847 mentions that Marvel's Spider-Man's Easter egg featuring starkly polygonal citizens on a boat alludes to this reference. Indeed, it would not be impossible for Insomniac Games to include such a skin cosmetic. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales features a cosmetic from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), which has the added ability to reduce the character model's frame rate apart from the rest of the game to emulate the film's animation style. Perhaps a low-poly PS1 model cosmetic could feature low-poly webbing and other features as its own suit ability.

Many different references can be used by for Insomniac if the developer ever decided to include a low-poly model as a cosmetic. At this point, even with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 arriving in a couple years, it seems likely that Insomniac would wait to populate the sequel with suit cosmetic requests rather than add them to the original Marvel's Spider-Man. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2021) comes to theatres in December, however, so it will be interesting to see if cosmetic content updates launch alongside the new Spider-Man film's release. Regardless, it is clear that some gamers would enjoy wearing a suit that is intentionally outdated.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PS5.
