Director James Gunn has taken to Twitter to troll Guardians of the Galaxy fans with a joke about Facebook being down. Gunn recently released his latest film, The Suicide Squad, in theaters and on HBO Max and is currently prepping the next chapter of the MCU franchise with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn got his start with the B-grade films of Troma and would later direct the horror flick, Slither, starring Elizabeth Banks, and the indie superhero film, Super, starring Rainn Wilson. In 2014, Gunn took on directing duties for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, which put Gunn to the top of the A-list.

Gunn would direct the sequel to GOTG in 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2., before moving on to The Suicide Squad after being fired from Vol. 3 over some old offensive tweets. Disney would later hire the director back, where he's currently at work on Vol. 3, as well as a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, that will shoot back-to-back with the film. Throughout the years, Gunn has teased that there's a giant Easter egg hidden with the the first film that no one has completely discovered as of yet, with many fans continuing to offer their guesses and Gunn continuing to shoot them down.

Today, in the wake of Facebook and Instagram having a global outage, James Gunn took to Twitter to troll Guardians of the Galaxy fans, saying that he just posted the "big Guardians Easter egg on Facebook for everyone to see." Obviously, this is a joke, as no one has been able to access Facebook for most of the day, and Gunn took the opportunity to poke some fun. Gunn has said that he will reveal the Easter egg once his GOTG trilogy is complete or if someone gets it right before then. See Gunn's tweet below:

Gunn has shared tidbits of info on his progress with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on Twitter recently, including a massive stack of GOTG Vol. 3 storyboards that reveal his intricate process in planning out his films. The director has said that Guardians 3 will be a "heavier" story, and it's expected that it will wrap up the story that began in the 2014 film. Meanwhile, Gunn is also set to debut Peacemaker, his The Suicide Squad spinoff show starring John Cena, in 2022 on HBO Max and has also teased that he's developing another DC project besides Peacemaker, although it's unclear what that will be.

Gunn has continued to share his movie-making experience with fans on Twitter, as well as entertaining various theories and questions throughout the years, making him one of the more engaging filmmakers on the platform. Thankfully, he can still have some fun with fans as well, seeing as it doesn't always need to be such a serious endeavor. Whether or not anyone ever guesses the big Guardians of the Galaxy Easter egg that's hidden within the first film is up for grabs, but with Gunn, it seems likely he'll keep his promise and reveal it once Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is safely out to audiences.
