What If Season 2 May Include Shang-Chi & Eternals Episodes

The second season of What If...? may include Shang-Chi and Eternals episodes. With Marvel Studios' series on Disney+, the MCU has ushered in an all-new level of interconnectivity between the small and silver screens. The latest cinematic entry into the MCU, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, released in theaters a month ago and proved to be another veritable hit. Coming up a month from now, Eternals will be the next Marvel film to debut in theaters and introduce new heroes to the MCU.

Since premiering on Disney+ on August 11, What If...? has pondered its titular question with each weekly episode. The anthology series explores alternate timelines in the multiverse by revisiting key moments from the MCU's main timeline and imagining if they played out a bit differently. A few of season 1's most notable storylines include T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) becoming Star-Lord instead of Peter Quill and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) taking the super solider serum to become Captain Carter. With the season 1 finale set to air this week, What If...?'s creative team is already looking ahead to the second installment.

What If...? creator and head writer, A.C. Bradley, recently sat down with EW to discuss season 1's upcoming finale and what lies ahead for the anthology series. While some minor elements from Phase 4 have already begun to make their way into the Disney+ show, Bradley promises that the sophomore season will pull even more from recent MCU films, hinting at entire episodes centered around characters from Shang-Chi, Eternals, and even Black Widow. Going into the second season, we're sticking with anthology form, and it's going to be all-new stories, lots of fun, new heroes, and pulling more from Phase Four than we were obviously able to this season. Hopefully, we'll see hints of Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Black Widow characters. The fun of What If...? is that we get to explore the entire infinite multiverse, so we try and bounce around as much as we can. I want to play with all these characters, and as much as I love Captain Carter, we've got to share the love. I'm very excited to show new worlds, new heroes.

Bradley also confirmed that all the scripts for season 2 have already been completed, so if there are Shang-Chi and Eternals-centric episodes ahead, they have seemingly been written already. It was already confirmed that the second season of What If...? will feature a Black Widow episode, but the Shang-Chi and Eternals episodes are a new revelation. With Chloé Zhao's entry into the MCU yet to be released, it's difficult to speculate about what alternate timelines What If...? could tackle, but the possibilities for Shang-Chi are endless.

Simu Liu has already shared his own idea for Shang-Chi's appearance in What If...?, imagining an alternate scenario in which his character is a Marvel blogger chasing the latest superhero scoops instead of a master of Kung-fu. Given What If...? 's premise, literally anything is possible if the Marvel show decides to bring in characters from Shang-Chi and Eternals. For now, the more pressing issue is how the The Watcher and Doctor Strange deal with Ultron Vision in the season 1 finale.
