Star Wars recently announced that they will explain an iconic Revenge of the Sith reference in an upcoming book focused on the relationship between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Comprised of Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the prequel trilogy took off in the late 1990s. Written and directed by George Lucas himself, the space epics take place roughly 30 years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship is at the core of the prequel trilogy, in addition to having a massive impact on the events of the original Star Wars films. The two first meet in The Phantom Menace while Obi-Wan is training as a Padawan under Qui-Gon Jinn. After Qui-Gon dies at the hands of Darth Maul in the Duel of the Fates, Obi-Wan not only finds himself abruptly promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight, but also pseudo-adopts Anakin as his first Padawan. Obi-Wan essentially raises him from childhood, creating an extremely close-knit bond between the two men that is further explored in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In a blog post uploaded to the official Star Wars website, it was revealed that author Mike Chen is releasing a new Star Wars novel titled Brotherhood. The story will explore the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan during the early stages of the Clone Wars, and will explain Obi-Wan's "you were my brother" line at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Following Anakin's rise in rank to Jedi Master, the two men have to figure out how to form a new bond beyond ex-Padawan/Master while navigating through the lurking threat of war. Brotherhood's synopsis can be read below:

"Once a Padawan to Obi-Wan, Anakin now finds himself on equal–but uncertain–footing with the man who raised him. The lingering friction between them increases the danger for everyone around them.  The two knights must learn a new way to work together—and they must learn quickly, to save Cato Neimoidia and its people from the fires of war. To overcome the threat they face they must grow beyond master and apprentice. They must stand together as brothers."

It's safe to say that the return of Anakin/Darth Vader in Disney+'s upcoming series Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most highly anticipated parts of the show. Much to the delight of Star Wars fans, actor Hayden Christensen is reprising his role as Anakin/Darth Vader alongside Ewan McGregor. The two haven't shared a screen since Revenge of the Sith, making for what will hopefully be an epic reunion between the former Padawan/Master duo. Obviously, fans know how their tumultuous relationship ultimately ends in A New Hope. But it'll be interesting to see how the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will further explore what's arguably Star Wars' most profound friendship.

Chen's Brotherhood hits shelves on May 10, 2022, and is available for pre-order now. The book is just one of four recently-announced Star Wars novels that will explore never-before-told tales from across the galaxy. Shadow of the Sith, Stories of Jedi and Sith, and Padawan are all set to arrive throughout 2022, making it a big year for the Star Wars literary universe. With a rumored Spring 2022 premiere date for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Brotherhood might just coincide with the release of the show. Either way, fans of the Star Wars universe are in for plenty more content from the famous Padawan/Master duo, and might finally understand exactly why Obi-Wan thinks of Anakin as a brother.
