Diablo 2: Resurrected Hit By Login Issues Once Again

Despite being one of the most iconic game releases of all time, Diablo 2: Resurrected has had a tumultuous launch. That's not to say anything of the quality of developer Vicarious Visions' update of the ARPG's visuals, which have been resoundingly praised. Rather, Diablo 2: Resurrected had the misfortune to launch in the midst of Activision Blizzard's ongoing controversy over workplace gender discrimination. And since its launch, Diablo 2: Resurrected has been plagued by frequent login issues.

The official Blizzard customer service Twitter account issued another statement on Wednesday morning regarding Diablo 2: Resurrected's ongoing login issues. The statement confirms that the issue is ongoing, though developers are actively working to prevent the issues from occurring. However, those actions can have a direct impact on the ongoing issues. Blizzard warns that Diablo 2: Resurrected players may experience periods of time where "logins or game creation are limited." In other words, expect the issues to continue for the foreseeable future.

Another detail that the Blizzard account calls attention to is that the login issues crop up in Diablo 2: Resurrected at peak hours. That means the servers are struggling to deal with the number of players logging on and making games when they're at their highest. It's likely not a capacity issue, however, so much as a more complex issue that cascades when more players are online at the same time. In other words, Diablo 2: Resurrected's developers have their work cut out for them.

Login issues have been prevalent in Diablo 2: Resurrected for the past week, with players attempting to log in either experiencing an extremely slow authentication process or having authentication fail. The issues began following an update from Blizzard that rolled out on October 6. While the correlation between the issues and the patch seems clear, there's nothing in the patch notes that stands out. As such, it's likely an unpublished change dealing with the backend of Diablo 2: Resurrected.

For whatever reason, Blizzard hasn't opted to roll back the update. Instead, Diablo 2: Resurrected players have had to wait for Blizzard each day to try and get a handle on the day's login issues. That typically means login issues anywhere between 6:00 AM PT and 1:00 PM PT.

While it's likely safe to assume that a permanent solution is being worked on for Diablo 2: Resurrected's login issues, no statement to that effect has been made. Rather, Blizzard is dealing with each day's issues as they come. It's possible Blizzard is hoping for the peak player count to simply decrease. Without further comment, the issue remains muddy. Diablo 2: Resurrected players will just have to do their best to avoid the times of the day when Diablo 2: Resurrected is having problems.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
