Emboldened by the uneventful completion of the first round of the Ranji Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to start the Senior Women's Twenty20 championship as well as the Col CK Nayudu Trophy championships. These tournaments will be held between March and May.

In correspondence to the state associations on Thursday (February 24), BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, "As we completed the Round 1 of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22, it gives me immense pleasure to apprise you that Sr Women's T20 and Col CK Naidu trophy - 2021-22 shall take place during the months of March-May2022."

The exact dates of the tournaments have not been indicated but Shah said the preparation is underway. "The BCCI will share draw of the tournaments and bio security protocols in due course," Shah further wrote to the affiliates.

In the midst of the Omicron wave last month, the BCCI had postponed the two tournaments, scheduled to be held in February, along with the Ranji Trophy stating that it did not want to compromise on the "safety of the players, support staff, match officials and other participants involved."

While announcing the postponement, the BCCI had also said it would monitor the situation. "The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly," the BCCI had stated in a release on January 4. With the Covid situation improving across the country, plans are being made to go through the domestic grind.

However, there is no immediate information on the Cooch Behar Trophy Under 19 tournament, which had to be postponed at the quarter-final stage because of the multiple cases among the participating teams. The tournament, which was being held in Pune, was postponed on January 10.
