Rumor: Intel Arc Desktop GPUs Could Arrive as Late as Q4

Intel is seemingly struggling to make any sort of headway in the GPU circuit. Although its laptop Arc cards came out not long ago, the world has yet to see the desktop models. With Nvidia looking to launch its RTX 40 series soon, possibly July, and AMD now on the warpath to release RDNA 3, it's starting to look more and more like team blue will have a lot of catching up to do with the others. Unfortunately, things don't appear to be getting any better for the tech giant.

According to a recent video from the Moore's Law Is Dead YouTube channel, sources have told the show's host that Intel may not be ready to launch desktop Arc cards until Q4 of this year. That potentially puts the release window somewhere between October and December, which is a yawning gulf away from what was originally anticipated. Of course, it is just a rumor at this stage, but the MLID host insists the sources are reliable. That and all the evidence does seem to point to the fact that the tech company is dragging its feet somewhat when it comes to its desktop GPUs.

There were, after all, previous rumors that Intel might not launch the Arc desktop cards until August, which again is later than what people initially thought. While there's been no word from the company about these alleged pushbacks and delays, many are speculating that, although the hardware is finished and pretty much ready, it's the drivers that appear to be holding things back. However, as time moves on, it feels like Intel will be left eating its newest rivals' dust. Information about the rumored Arc delay starts around the 15-minute mark of the below video.

With Nvidia's Ada Lovelace GPUs just around the corner, the next generation of graphics hardware technology is imminent, with team red nipping on the heels of its biggest competitor, but still nowhere near as far back from the market front-runner the way Intel appears to be. On top of all that, there's the ongoing deficit, which has plagued the tech world for at least a year and half by this point.

With Intel CEO, Pat Gelsinger, saying that the chip shortage could go on until 2024, times may continue to be difficult for anyone looking for a new graphics card, or current-gen console. With sources indicating that team blue won't be ready to unveil its Arc desktop cards until much later in the year, hopes that the CPU giant could give Nvidia and AMD a run for their money might be fading.
