The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally confirmed that VVS Laxman, the current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will travel to Ireland with a Twenty20 side. India will play two T20 games in Dublin on June 26 and 28.

"He will travel with the Indian team to Dublin" said Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary, confirming that Laxman will take charge of the India T20 side in the absence of Rahul Dravid, who would be with an Indian team in England.

The arrangement is similar to the one last year when Dravid, then head of the NCA, took a white ball side to Sri Lanka when Ravi Shastri was in England with the Test side.

The Indian T20 side will leave for Ireland immediately after the completion of the five-match home series against South Africa on June 19. The side is yet to be picked.

NCCC says India game sold out

Meanwhile, the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club (NCCC) has said tickets for the county's warm-up Twenty20 game against India on July 3 have been sold out. "Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are delighted to welcome the Indian men's T20 side to The County Ground this summer after hosting the Indian women's team last year.

"The match is almost sold out already, so we're looking forward to what will be an incredible atmosphere and some high quality cricket. The fixture will also be live streamed so fans from both teams can support from afar," a spokesman for the county told Cricbuzz on Monday (May 23). The match will be played at the Northampton County Ground (Wantage Road) that has a total capacity of around 6500. Josh Cobb is the captain of the county's Twenty20 side.

As previously reported by this website, the Indian team will play three warm-up games in their month-long tour of England with a four-day game against Leicestershire from June 24 and two T20 games - vs Derbyshire on July 1 and then on July 3 in Northampton. India play one Test (from July 1 to 5) and six white ball games - three T20Is and three ODIs between July 7-17.
