Ahsoka Voice Actor Wants To Jump To Live Action Star Wars Role

Ashley Eckstein, the original voice actor of the beloved Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano, expresses interest in making the jump into a live-action role within the massive science-fiction fantasy franchise. Eckstein first began her career as a television actor appearing in such shows as That's So Raven, Blue Collar TV, and That 70's Show. In 2008, she began her voice acting work with the animated Star Wars prequel spinoff film, The Clone Wars, as a young Togruta Jedi-in-training named Ahsoka Tano. She has continued to portray the character in the long-running The Clone Wars television series, its sequel series Star Wars: Rebels, and various video games and animated shorts.

When Ahsoka was first introduced in The Clone Wars film, she was not well-received by critics and the Star Wars community. However, as The Clone Wars series grew, so did Ahsoka as a character. She was used a tool by the writers to challenge the Jedi Order, and through her lack of precedent in the Star Wars franchise, she developed into one of the more nuanced characters in the entire show. Toward the end of the series, Ahsoka was singled-out as one of the few positive female Star Wars role models for young girls.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Eckstein shares her wish to be a part of a live-action Star Wars project. When told that she resembles one of the new High Republic characters, the Jedi Avar Kriss, the actor says she had heard the comparison and expresses a desire for fans to call for her casting in a potential live-action role. Check out Eckstein's comments below:

The fans have pointed this out. I'll be honest, I read about how Rosario was fancast as Ahsoka; how the fans started asking for her to play Ahsoka. If the fans want to ask for me to play this character, that would be incredible. I would be honored to make the jump to live-action for the High Republic. Hey, it worked for Ahsoka. Maybe it will work for me to be in The High Republic! [...] I would love it. You heard it here first.

Avar Kriss is a Jedi Master that lived during the High Republic era, a 200-year period of peace that was deemed a golden age for the Jedi Order. Eckstein appears to bear a striking resemblance to artist renditions of the High Republic Jedi, particularly the character's bright, golden hair. Although new Star Wars show The Acolyte will bring the High Republic to Disney+ in the near future, Kriss will likely not be a part of it, due to the fact that the series will take place at the end of the era, nearly 200 years after Kriss' birth.

Although Kriss may not feature in The Acolyte, Eckstein can still feature in a live-action Star Wars role. Ahsoka's longtime voice actor has been a part of the Star Wars community for nearly a decade and a half, and has yet to appear in any live-action capacity within the franchise. Even her The Clone Wars co-star Matt Lanter, who voiced Anakin Skywalker, made a cameo appearance in an episode of The Mandalorian. If fans can rally behind Rosario Dawson for a live-action version of Ahsoka Tano, then they can surely get behind Eckstein for Avar Kriss.
