Chucky Season 2 Set Photo Is Giving Fans Bride of Chucky Flashbacks

A new set photo for Chucky season 2 with Jennifer Tilly is eerily reminiscent of a scene from Bride of Chucky. Chucky got mostly positive reviews upon release, and USA Network and Syfy were quick to renew Don Mancini’s series. Chucky season 2 was confirmed a day before the season 1 finale aired, and the series is expected to return this fall. Chucky largely centers around a new group of characters, including Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) and Devon Evans (Björgvin Arnarson) but also brought back legacy characters like Andy Barclay, Kyle from Child’s Play 2, and Tiffany Valentine, who made her debut in Bride of Chucky.

After Child’s Play 3 failed to impress fans and critics in 1991, Ronny Yu tried to bring fans back by introducing a new love interest for Chucky. Tiffany Valentine was not only an old girlfriend of Charles Lee Ray, but she would actually become trapped inside a doll just like Chucky after he tried to kill her. Tiffany immediately became a fan-favorite character partly because she could be just as brutal as Chucky himself. One of the sequel’s more gruesome scenes involves Tiffany, a champagne bottle, and a mirror. After a honeymoon couple becomes intimate, Tiffany throws the bottle at the mirror above their water bed, causing glass shards to fly down and impale her victims. It was a memorable kill and an important story beat since it triggers Chucky to propose to Tiffany.

Now, a new set photo from Chucky season 2 is reminding fans of that eventful scene in Bride of Chucky. Tilly recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at a late-night shoot which showed her laying on a bed with Mancini and co-star Gina Gershon. While the shot seemingly doesn’t give away anything about season 2’s story, it is making people think back on one of Tiffany’s most memorable kills.

Chucky season 2 is going to be a reunion of sorts for Tilly, Gershon, and Joe Pantoliano, who all starred in the 1996 crime thriller Bound. Tilly and Gershon will likely be sharing scenes for that reason alone, especially since the inclusion of Tilly as an actress in the Child’s Play franchise has been a long-running meta-joke. That being said, it’s hard to tell what exactly is going on in this scene. Jennifer Tilly technically died in canon back in 2004 when Tiffany made her a human host. And with Tiffany transferring her soul back into a doll in Chucky season 1’s cliffhanger finale, it’s unknown how Tilly will return other than as the voice of Tiffany. Other set photos have shown acting awards the “character” Jennifer Tilly received in the Child’s Play universe, which means this could be some sort of flashback involving Tilly before she was possessed by Tiffany.

Chucky season 1 wasn’t afraid to make callbacks to previous Child’s Play movies and horror films in general, so it’s completely possible that season 2 could recreate a death similar to the water-bed scene in Bride of Chucky. Mancini will likely be upping the ante in Chucky season 2 regarding shocking character deaths, and this could be a fun way to do that while also giving a shout-out to long-time fans of the franchise. That being said, this could all be a huge coincidence, with the mirror being nothing more than an artistic choice in the set decoration. Regardless, Tilly seems to have an even bigger role in Chucky season 2, so it should be interesting to see how Mancini continues her story.
