Disney Has Created A $5000 Drink Out Of A Deep Cut Star Wars Easter Egg

A deep cut Star Wars Easter egg has turned into one of the most expensive cocktails in the galaxy. The drink takes inspiration from an obscure yet noticeable moment in The Empire Strikes Back, when a character named Willrow Hood is seen dashing out of Cloud City with a container in his hand that looks like an ice cream maker. Hood only appears in the film for less than three seconds, but his humorously awkward escape developed a bit of a cult following, inspiring cosplays and even an action figure for the character.

Little did anyone realize that the scene would prove significant in future installments of the Star Wars franchise. When The Mandalorian season 1 debuted on Disney+ in 2019, the show made a subtle reference to Hood's scene and added further context to the so-called ice cream maker. The item is actually known as a Camtono, used to store valuable items such as the Beskar featured in The Mandalorian. Show creator Jon Favreau has spoken openly about building a backstory around Hood's prized possession. The Camtono has continued to reappear in other Star Wars stories, most recently in The Book of Boba Fett.

Now, Disney has created another valuable item to store inside a real working Camtono - a $5,000 cocktail known as the Kaiburr Crystal. The drink can be purchased in the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge aboard the newly opened Disney Wish cruise ship. Spectrum News 13 journalist Ashley Carter shared video of the Kaiburr Crystal with the Camtono in action.

Disney has yet to disclose what exactly makes this drink so valuable, but one can assume that the ingredients are either ultra-premium or extremely overpriced. There's no doubt the Camtono adds to the cost as well. While $5,000 may seem excessive for a drink, Star Wars fans have been known to pay a pretty penny for novelties. A financially fortunate cruise ship passenger dropping dough on the Kaiburr Crystal should come as no surprise.

Pricing aside, the Kaiburr Crystal cocktail is a pretty creative nod to the niche fandom of Willrow Hood. The drink adds to Hood's legacy in Star Wars lore, especially appealing to fans who are suckers for obscure references. Considering its significance in recent Star Wars content and now a premium priced beverage, the Camtono is on its way to becoming as recognizable as items like Holocrons and Wayfinders, surely doing Hood proud.
