Producer David Leitch provides a very promising update on the status of Nobody 2. Released last year, Nobody was a hit among audiences and critics, turning Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk into a full-on action star. The film, written by John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad and directed by Ilya Naishuller, tells the story of seemingly mild-mannered husband Hutch Mansell, who embraces his dark past after a home invasion gone wrong and sets out to save his wife and son from a dangerous enemy.

It didn't take long after the first film's success for talk of a sequel to emerge, with Odenkirk expressing interest in returning to the role. The ending to the first Nobody keeps the door wide open for a return, with Hutch seemingly back in the assassin business after getting a mysterious phone call. Details on the potential sequel have been hard to come by, but in February, Odenkirk said that while the film isn't a sure thing, he's optimistic Nobody 2 will eventually come to fruition. Since then, however, updates on Nobody 2 have been few and far between.

In a new interview with Collider, Leitch has offered another update on the Nobody sequel, saying the project is currently in the script stage. The producer also reveals a general air of excitement surrounding the sequel and that everyone is "really excited" about the prospect of returning to the world of the first film. While Nobody 2 has yet to get the official green light, Leitch is optimistic about the film's chances, promising that "it's happening as fast as we can make it happen." Check out Leitch's full comment below:

"Oh, I think everyone's really excited about it. Everyone involved is like, 'Full steam ahead.' We are in the script process, and I think we had so much fun making that. Kelly [McCormick] and I had a blast, the actors had a blast, the studio loved the results, and it's happening. I mean, I think it's happening as fast as we can make it happen"

Although Leitch doesn't divulge any story details, his comment suggests that all the first film's principal actors are up to return in the Nobody sequel. After all, Christopher Lloyd's David Mansell and RZA's Harry Mansell survive the first film's events, meaning nothing is stopping the two characters from showing up in the sequel. Despite Leitch's optimism about Nobody 2, however, it's still ultimately up to Universal to give the project the green light.

John Wick ushered in a new era of action filmmaking upon its release in 2014, and Nobody very much feels like a film in that same universe, boasting the same impressive fight choreography but with a lighter tone. Like John Wick's Keanu Reeves, Odenkirk has proven that even actors in their mid-50s are more than capable of delivering some high-octane fight sequences, and the film's premise resonated with audiences. It remains to be seen if Nobody 2 will get made, but Leitch's comment suggests that fans can be confident they'll see Odenkirk's Hutch again sooner rather than later.
