Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has a heartwarming reaction to the Netflix show's season 2 renewal. In Wednesday, Ortega plays gothic teen Wednesday Addams attempting to adjust to life at a new boarding school. The Addams Family inspired series garnered an impressive following upon its release in November 2022, topping Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Money Heist and many other series as one of the most-watched Netflix shows of all time. Created by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Tim Burton, there is reportedly a plan in place for multiple seasons of Wednesday.

Despite its wide viewership and acclaim, the hit series did not receive a renewal in 2022, leading viewers to worry that it would go the way of many other Netflix shows and be canceled after just one season. Luckily, the Ortega-led show, Wednesday season 2 was officially announced by the streaming service. In the wake of the popular series' renewal, Ortega posted a sweet message via Twitter, expressing her appreciation for the show's large fanbase and attributing its renewal to them. See the post below:

How Wednesday Continued Ortega's Rise To Fame

Ortega was a well-known child actress because of her part in Disney's Stuck in the Middle, in which she played a precocious middle child in a large family. Later in her career, Ortega garnered a reputation as a scream queen due to her several horror roles, including a part as Ellie Alves in You and major roles in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, X, and Scream. In addition, she has experience with drama, earning acclaim for her starring turn in The Fallout. While she was well-known prior to portraying Wednesday, Ortega has been catapulted to a new level of fame since the popular show premiered thanks to her flawless portrayal of an already beloved character.

How Many Seasons Could Wednesday Have?

While it's surprising that Netflix didn't renew the show for multiple seasons as it has done in the past for well-received series such as Heartstopper, it's possible that Wednesday's star-studded cast complicated that possibility. However, Millar has previously stated that potential storylines for three to four seasons of Wednesday have been discussed, and given Wednesday's record-breaking viewership numbers and Ortega's continued popularity, it's likely that the series will earn another renewal after season 2. The setting of a boarding school naturally lends itself to multiple seasons until Wednesday graduates from Nevermore, with the character's graduation serving as the ending of the series, unless the creators then decide to explore the character navigating adult life.

As for the content of season 2 and beyond, the creators have indicated that Wednesday season 2 will focus on the character's relationships with her new friends, especially her roommate Enid (Emma Myers), as well as her family, particularly her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Ortega herself has said that she wants to see Wednesday become an anti-hero in season 2, which could set her up to grow even darker as the seasons go on. In addition, if the show continues to exist in the mystery genre, each season could introduce a Nevermore mystery for the character to unravel, which could offer rich potential storylines for Wednesday moving forward.
