Game Of Thrones Author Teases New Movie Adapting His Work Coming In 2024

George R.R. Martin provides an update on his In the Lost Lands movie adaptation. The fantasy author's works A Song of Ice and Fire and Fire & Blood have been adapted into the massively popular HBO series Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. However, while Martin's stories have had much success on the small screen, his works that have been adapted into feature films tend to be lower profile. That is set to change with the upcoming In the Lost Lands movie.

About two years after the In the Lost Lands film adaptation was first announced, Martin has provided an update on the project.
 

 

On his website and Twitter account, the Game of Thrones scribe says the In the Lost Lands movie wrapped filming in Poland a few weeks ago, though it still has a lot of special effects work to do in post-production before it can be released in theaters in 2024. Similar to A Song of Ice and Fire, In the Lost Lands is pure high fantasy from the imaginative mind of Martin. The short story, which was first published in the DAW Books anthology AMAZONS II in 1982, follows a powerful sorceress known as Gray Alys, who is sent on a mission to the perilous Lost Lands a retrieve a magical power. Along the way, she is accompanied by a guide, a drifter named Boyce.

The In the Lost Lands movie adaptation was first announced in February 2021 with Paul W.S. Anderson at the helm and Milla Jovovich starring as Gray Alys, reuniting the director and actor yet again after Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Dave Bautista also stars as Boyce, adding another intriguing role to the actor's recent filmography along with Dune, Glass Onion, and Knock at the Cabin. Anderson has even teased that Jovovich and Bautista's characters will fight in the movie. In the Lost Lands was adapted to the screen by Constantin Werner, who is known for his 2009 fantasy film The Pagan Queen.

In addition to wrapping filming and being slated for 2024, Martin says there are plans to do a tie-in graphic novel that expands on his 6,000-word short story for the film adaptation, which is much more expansive. If the In the Lost Lands movie is a success, the author also says more stories following the adventures of Gray Alys could be a possibility. Whether that will be on the screen or the page remains to be seen.
