Patrick Stewart comments on a potential return as Charles Xavier aka Professor X in Deadpool 3. Stewart has a long history as the leader of Marvel's mutants, first playing the role in 2000's X-Men. The actor recently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a multiverse variant of Professor X, and could make another appearance in the upcoming Deadpool 3.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Stewart was asked what he knew about a possible return to his iconic role in Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3. The actor said, "I've been told to standby. I know nothing more than that, honest." Multiverse Professor X's death means that version of the character won't be in Deadpool 3, but Stewart's comment implies he's heard something about a possible return from Marvel.

How Patrick Stewart's Professor X Could Return In Deadpool 3

Stewart returning for another adventure as Professor X in Deadpool 3 would make sense as it already includes two other stars from Fox's X-Men franchise. The movie will star Ryan Reynolds as the title character and Hugh Jackman back in his iconic Wolverine role. There is a chance Stewart could appear in the movie only in a cameo role, helping to set up Wolverine's path in the story. After all, that last time their original Fox characters were seen, in the Logan movie ending, both died after having displayed the closest bond they ever showed in the X-Men universe.

Stewart's return could be linked to a different universe where similar events to Logan happened as Jackman already revealed the emotional moments from Logan will not be meddled with during Deadpool 3. Professor X could be giving a sort of blessing/ farewell to Wolverine as he embarks on a mind-boggling adventure alongside Deadpool. Reynolds has talked in the past about how his original plans for Deadpool 3 — before Disney bought Fox — involved a road trip between Deadpool and Wolverine. Stewart could appear due to Wolverine's jump to MCU canon possibly including a multiverse-hopping trip.

Rumors about Deadpool 3 have picked up steam lately, and they position the movie to be a sort of victory lap across the Fox-Marvel universe. Deadpool messing with time travel at the end of Deadpool 2 could alert the MCU's Time Variance Authority from Loki, who would try to catch Deadpool. The character could then start jumping through different realities, which is how he would find Wolverine — who could tag along for the ride — similarly to Reynolds' original Deadpool 3 plan. If that were to happen, Stewart's Professor X could come from a number of different timelines, including all of Fox's X-Men movies, if he were to appear in Deadpool 3.
