Are mobile games the future?

Just got my hands on a android tablet a few weeks ago and have got an unofficial version of Cyanogenmod running on it. I'very been amazed by the amount and quality of games in the Play Store.

I'm not a heavy gamer at all - had a PSX way back when but lost interest quickly. Now with the 4-7/8 inch form factor iOS and Android devices and the steadily improving specs they offer, I can see mobile gaming having real appeal to many consumers, even those that aren't "gamers" as such like me.

Will there still be a place for consoles in the future? Your thoughts?

I think it will eat into the casual market quite a bit... I wonder if Nintendo is nervous?

I think you're right. And Nintendo might well be nervous.

I would add that there are a decent number of games in the Play Store that are for more than just the casual gamer, what with GTA and various Final Fantasy titles for sale.

When you can easily connect a tablet that you would be carrying around with you anyway to any tv via HDMI, you're effectively carrying around a console in your pocket/bag. A lot of people like having less devices, and not having to bother a dedicated console would be a boon.

All of the above is IMHO, of course.

Agree I think that the mobile gaming activity will be afecting a lot the casual console like the Nintendo DS> However there is a market of more serious gamers that I can not see switching a console for a Tablet or mobile devices. I'm one of them altough there are games on the iPad that I really enjoy it will never replace my xbox or ds
