These Avengers 2 Characters Might Be Less Important Than We Thought

When it comes to ensemble films, it’s tough to give every main character the appropriate amount of time to shine. Even in 2012’s The Avengers, while most of the protagonists had their big moments, Hawkeye was largely kept to the side until halfway through the film. The Avengers: Age of Ultron will feature an even larger cast, yet while characters like Black Widow and Hulk may get expanded roles, this may result in sacrificing screen time for the new characters -- specifically new Avengers Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

ComicBookMovie.com has posted the pages from The Avengers: Age of Ultron LEGO comic book preview titled "Ultron Rules Part 1," featuring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes fighting the megalomaniacal robot. The article makes sure to note that none of the events illustrated are scenes that will actually happen in the movie, but nevertheless, there may be clues that can be drawn from these pages. Most notably, where are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch? We have our lineup of heroes from the previous movie, but the siblings are nowhere to be found. It could be that these comic book pages are just featuring the adventures of the original Avengers for the kids, but another possibility is that the twins won’t be thrown into action until the latter half of the film, thus not getting as much screen time as we might have thought.

Audiences were introduced to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the Captain America: The Winter Soldier mid-credits scene, where they were being experimented on by HYDRA. Given that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be facing off against Baron von Strucker and his minions in the film, this is likely when they’ll be freed. They’ll be working with Ultron at some point during the movie, but stating the obvious, they’ll eventually switch sides and work with the other heroes to defeat him, probably towards the end given that this comic only features the original six members. Still, with nine superheroes appearing in the film, we may have to face the possibility that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch may be pushed to the side in favor of giving the established heroes more time. Which isn’t a bad thing. Hopefully the movie will at least explain where the twins got their powers, whether it’s due to them being Inhumans or another reason.

Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson likely have signed multi-picture deals to play the characters, so even if their roles in The Avengers: Age of Ultron aren’t as important as originally thought, they’ll be back for other movies. As for the Avengers sequel, if the speedster and the witch won’t be involved as much, let’s hope that Paul Bettany’s Vision gets a moment of glory!
