BitTorrent Inc. Wants to Take on Sony’s Movie

Recommended Posts

After cinema theaters all around the United States backed away from screening the controversial movie released by Sony Pictures, The Interview, the company had to pull the film. Now BitTorrent Inc. stepped in with an online distribution offer. Indeed, Sony Pictures and the creators of the movie have been experiencing difficult times recently, with the movie studio falling to a hack attack reportedly at the hands of North Korea.

After Sony pulled The Interview a few days ago following threats of terror attacks on theaters, President Obama criticized the company. However, one should admit that the studio’s options are limited as no theaters or major ecommerce sites are willing to show the movie. Except for… BitTorrent Inc. The company admitted that there have been calls for Sony to release the controversial movie online and BitTorrent sounds as a right platform for it.

BitTorrent Inc. offers Sony to take back control of their movie and not cave in to terrorist threats. Indeed, Sony Pictures could have utilized the company’s BitTorrent Bundles. First of all, the Internet users would be able to watch The Interview at home safe and strike a strong note for free speech. In the meantime, the company would be able to set whatever price they like for the movie.

One can’t deny that there’s a promotional aspect to BitTorrent Inc.’s offer, but releasing The Interview via the BitTorrent protocol would solve the movie studio’s initial distribution problems. On the other hand, any release via BitTorrent Bundles would make the movie available on public and private torrent trackers within hours.

The changes are scanty that BitTorrent Inc. will seal the deal with Sony, but in case of success this would be a major coup for BitTorrent.
