Microsoft Confirms New Office for Windows Phone

Recommended Posts

Microsoft has already started work on the next version of Windows Phone, and people close to the matter suggested that the first preview build might be unveiled during the January 21 Windows 10 event in Redmond.

And while this is indeed great news for Windows Phone users, it appears that Microsoft is actually preparing many more goodies in addition to the possible preview build.

Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group, confirmed on the first day of 2015 that a new version of Office for Windows Phone was indeed in the works, but more details would only be provided at a later date.

“We received your letters”

Surprisingly, Belfiore didn’t use the company’s blog or his Twitter account to share this information, but instead he turned to his Weibo profile to leave a message for Chinese users.

Written in English, Belfiore’s message reveals that Microsoft has indeed received lots of comments and letters on ways to improve Windows Phone, and some of these suggestions will be there in the final version of the smartphone operating system.

“I want to assure you that our Office team has not forgotten Windows Phone - we're just aligning all of our news and announcements to a single event. You'll hear much more about what we have planned before Chinese New Year,” Belfiore explained.

Possible unveiling at the January 21 event

Even though Belfiore didn’t provide specifics on the new Office for Windows Phone, not even information regarding its unveiling date, it’s possible that Microsoft plans to present the new productivity suite during the January 21 event in Redmond.

This month, Microsoft will be holding a Windows 10 event focused on the consumer experience in the new operating system, and people close to the matter said that the software giant was also planning to present Windows Phone 10, Xbox improvements, and some new features that could be introduced on its platforms.

As a result, Belfiore might actually suggest that the new Office for Windows Phone could make its first public appearance during the same event, but details are obviously really scarce right now.

On the bright side, Microsoft will be live-streaming the January 21 event, so everyone should be able to watch it online and see what’s new for users on all platforms.
