Tottenham striker Harry Kane dreaming of England call-up after blistering Premier Lea

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is hoping his England dream can come true this year after his blistering first half of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Spurs star revealed he has been dreaming of representing his country ever since he was a child and is now being widely touted for a senior England call-up after a scoring 16 goals in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side

And that dream could soon become a reality but the 21-year-old believes he must continue to bang in the goals for Spurs if he wants to secure a place in Roy Hodgson’s next squad.

“It’s something I’ve dreamt about since I was a kid but there’s still two months until the next England squad is announced,” Kane told Sky Sports.

“There’s a lot of football to be played from now until then so I know I’ve got to keep my form up if I want to have a chance at that.

“I’ve got to keep scoring goals because the boss has said he’ll pick players on form and who’s doing well. There’s still two months left and I’ve got to continue to do well if that’s where I want to get to.”

Kane, who has scored five goals in his last five Premier League matches, is firmly on England’s radar and recently received praise from Three Lions boss Hodgson.

The national coach described the Spurs forward as a player who has “come on leaps and bounds” and one he is watching ahead of England’s next fixtures againt Lithuania and Italy in March.

Despite the England’s managers words, Kane believes he must stay focused and keep performing well for Spurs if he wants to win a place in the next senior squad.

He added: “To have the England senior manager talking to you in that light and saying things like that about you is something that can only help me.

“Hopefully I can continue what I’ve been doing and get a call up. I know if I’m playing well and if I’m have a shout but I know I’ve got to continue playing well to have any chance because the England senior squad is the top of the top and what every English footballer dreams of.

“I’ve got to keep focused, keep my feet on the ground and continue doing what I’m doing for Tottenham.”

Kane was a key member of the England U21 side that has qualified for the 2015 European U21 Championship and he has no qualms about representing Gareth Southgate’s side next summer if called upon.

“Regardless of whether I get the England senior call up or not, I’m very much looking forward to the U21 tournament,” said Kane, who has scored 13 goals in 12 matches for the young Lions.

“It’s important to have a good side going to that tournament because it’s great for development and it’d be great for the country if we can win it.

“I feel we’ve got a great team in the U21s and we’ve had great success in the qualifying campaign. There’s no reason why we can’t win it and that’s exactly what we’re looking to do in the summer. It’s something I’m really looking forward to.

“It would be an honour if I’m picked to play in a European tournament at U21 level. Some great players have done it in the past. Hopefully we can do well and maybe even win it.

But first, Kane will be pulling on the white of Tottenham as they look to extend their unbeaten league run when they travel to Crystal Palace in the Saturday Night Football, live on Sky Sports.

The Eagles will have Alan Pardew in the dugout for his first league match when Spurs make the short trip across London and Kane, who has been backed by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp to lead Spurs to victory in south London, has warned his team-mates they must stick to their principles in what could be a testing atmosphere at Selhurst Park.

“We’ve got to be aware of it [the Pardew factor],” he said.

“They’re obviously going to be trying to impress the manager. All the players are going to be eager to play well and the fans will be buzzing with a new manager at the club.

“We’ve got to be cautious about it but we need to play our own game. We feel that if we play to the ability we can then it will be enough to get us the three points.”
