‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot and ‘Ant-Man’ Composers Revealed

At the moment, Marvel movie fans are buzzing over the just-released first trailer for Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man. In recent months, the film had been best known for the surprising exit of director Edgar Wright, but now that its release is only months away, fans can finally look forward to learning more about how the tale of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) will round out Marvel Studios’ Phase 2.

Of course, Ant-Man is far from the only Marvel film hitting theaters this summer. In fact, just weeks later, Fox will release its reboot of The Fantastic Four, a film still largely shrouded in mystery. Both superhero adventures are among our most anticipated 2015 releases, and now we have some new information about which composers will provide the music for these films.

According to Film Music Reporter, Marco Beltrami will compose the score for The Fantastic Four. Beltrami is, of course, no stranger to comic book film adaptations, having worked on music for films like The Wolverine, Hellboy and Blade II. However, his list of credits extends far beyond the superhero realm, including everything from all four Scream films to more grounded cinema like recent Tom Hardy crime drama The Drop.

In addition, FMR reported that Christophe Beck will provide the music for Ant-Man. His credits range from family fare (such as Frozen and Muppets Most Wanted) to comedies like The Hangover films and sci-fi releases like Edge of Tomorrow. He’s also providing the score for this year’s Terminator: Genisys and big-screen Peanuts adaptation.

Both Beltrami and Beck have tons of experience under their belt, and it makes sense for Fox and Marvel/Disney to hire them to provide the scores for these films. In the case of Beltrami, Fox likely took into account his solid past work in the comic book genre; and considering that the Fantastic Four franchise doesn’t have a great track record, bringing on a composer who has a clear understanding of what makes films like this tick (from a musical standpoint, at least) is a no-brainer.

Beck’s already-strong relationship with Disney no doubt led to his role as composer for Ant-Man. However, he also possesses what might just be the perfect set of skills for the project. Judging by what we’ve seen thus far (and the longtime involvement of Wright), it’s almost a given that Ant-Man will lightly poke fun at its titular hero, much like Guardians of the Galaxy. Beck’s background with both comedy and sci-fi should provide the perfect tone for what is essentially an action/comedy with superheroes.

Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17, 2015. The Fantastic Four arrives on August 7, 2015.
