When playing a game you are always practicing your hand and eye coordination, which is a good skill to have in life in general... But the over playing of games could be a hazard I guess.

for the entertainment.

it also probably develops the imagination, and certain games teach a lot about different cultures and stuff like that

I do see benefit as a lot of games helped me to learn about working with money and that you have to earn it (when i was younger),

It also kept my mind busy and thinking a lot,

and for some reason my mind went blank >.<

Well I believe games offer many opportunities to learn - I often use COD as an example of using skills taught at school for other things.

I pose the question - What school lessons do you use in COD can you link lessons to playing the game answers from students normally generate "Yes i use IT skills"

I then explain the links between geography, english, math, physics, history, physical education, IT,

i then can link the softskills such as problem solving, own learning and working as part of a team.

So yes many benefits I believe I think education is missing a trick from not using focused lessons using games.

They're only entertainment. In the long run, you will achieve nothing unless you'll get interested in the game designing/programming.

Yes, you can let youself go and act likš an idiot. Great for releasing the steam. But no so funny when you start trolling in the multiplayer session. I mean for the others :)

Yes, because at least it will help you get a better hand coordination! But I don't think most games will make someone smart in any area...
