Why Jersey Shore's Creator Wasn't Worred About The Revival's Success

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation has successfully recaptured the drunken spirit of the original Jersey Shore, which may come as a surprise to some of the show's classic fans. Countering anyone who was scratching their heads in confusion when the spinoff was announced, series creator SallyAnn Salsano never had any doubts that the revival would be anything less than a success. Salsano recently revealed why she wasn't too concerned about bringing the Shore crew back, essentially stated that some things never change:

We're all a lot older, but we're not necessarily wiser. They're still the same people. We're all still the same. We all have bigger jobs and more responsibilities. But at the heart of it, during your down time, you still like doing the same things. It's like when you go to your high school reunion or you go back for the weekend to see your high school friends, or you go back to see your cousins --- you kind of fall in line.

SallyAnn Salsano said that while the cast of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation may have aged, with new responsibilities and lifestyle changes to deal with, some of the stars' habits have remained largely the same. Day-to-day issues and problems aren't really a factor when it comes to Jersey Shore get-togethers, because everyone still loves to party and have a good time. Salsano likened the revival series to a high school reunion, and when explained that way, it makes complete sense why she was never worried about the revival being a success. And I'm sure seeing social media go berserk about it helped her optimism.

High school reunions -- or even just instances where one reunites with a handful of childhood friends -- are fun, messy, and eye-opening, and that's essentially the appeal of watching Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. The cast is generally the same, but those small changes in their lives have affected them just enough to make this new revival a hit with television audiences. The party girls are now moms worried about their kids. That one egotistical guy everyone judged is completely different now. And some folks are acting like "high school" never ended, so to speak.

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro is the strongest case for SallyAnn Salsano's explanation to Variety, as he has been the epitome of the phrase "some things never change." On Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, Ronnie is still creeping around on the girl he's seeing, he's stirring up past drama that he's still hanging onto from the original series, and he's still talking about ex-girlfriend Sammi Sweetheart, despite their real-life relationship ending quite some time ago. Out of all the Jersey Shore cast members who returned to the series, Ronnie has certainly been the one to fall in line with the show's drama more willingly than most. What would his high school buddies think?

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation airs on MTV on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. For a look at what else is coming to television in 2018, be sure to check out our midseason and summer premiere guides.
