Paramount debuted new banners for Terminator, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Gemini Man during their CinemaCon presentation. Of all this week’s CinemaCon presentations, the one put on by Paramount Pictures turned out to be among the newsiest. One of the juiciest tidbits revealed by the studio was their plan to produce a “proper” Cloverfield sequel after this year’s Cloverfield Paradox ended up being dumped on Netflix (and also dumped on by critics).

Speaking to the crowd via video, producer J.J. Abrams also revealed that his upcoming film Overlord, presumed by many to be a Cloverfield entry, in fact has nothing to do with that universe. Abrams did promise Overlord is “bats–t crazy,” which should come as encouraging news to those who like outlandish WWII movies. And then there was the night’s big Star Trek reveal. Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos told the crowd the studio has not one but two Star Trek movies in development, though he refused to get any more specific than that. Will one of the two movies be Quentin Tarantino’s Trek film? Only time will tell.

All three banners look fairly generic, but at least one of them may have revealed a newsworthy piece of information. Note that the Terminator 6 banner refers to the film merely as Terminator. Now perhaps this only means the film does not yet have an official title, and someone chose the “Terminator” name as a place-holder. Or, maybe they really will go with the simple one-word Terminator title without a number or a subtitle?

In light of everything we know about the planned sixth Terminator film, going with the simple title Terminator would actually make a lot of sense. Intended as a genuine franchise reboot, the film introduces a completely new young, female protagonist in the mold of Sarah Conner, a character named Dani Ramos who lives on the streets of Mexico City. The movie will also introduce a new Terminator, played by Agents of SHIELD actor Gabriel Luna. Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger will return but only to act as a bridge to the original movies. In addition, the new film will completely ignore Terminator 3, Salvation and Genisys. Much as Blumhouse will do with Halloween, calling the film Terminator could be a way to emphasize that this is a new start (so forget all those other sequels that took things in the wrong direction).

Time will tell if the simple Terminator title proves legit, or if the movie ends up getting a cumbersome subtitle. As for Will Smith’s Gemini Man, the latest news had Clive Owen and Mary Elizabeth Winstead joining the cast. Directed by Ang Lee, the movie concerns an assassin (Smith) who finds himself pitted against a younger clone of himself. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hedgehog is set to start filming this summer. The live-action/hybrid film, based on the wildly popular video game, belonged to Sony before dashing over to Paramount.
