Brandon Flowers said the trio "blew the doors open and allowed for bands like us to walk through them"

The Vines‘ Craig Nicholls joined The Killers on stage at their Sydney arena show today (April 28).

The Sydney band formed in 1994 and released their debut album ‘Highly Evolved‘ in 2002 – two years before The Killers released their first LP, ‘Hot Fuss‘.

During the Las Vegas group’s encore at the Qudos Bank Arena, Brandon Flowers introduced Nicholls to the stage. “One of the bands that kickstarted it again happen to be from Australia and they’re called The Vines,” he said. “They just sorta blew the doors open and allowed for bands like us to walk through them. We’re gonna play a little bit together now.”

“Sounds good!” Nicholls replied before they launched into a version of The Vines’ single ‘Get Free’. The frontman stayed on stage to join The Killers on their own ‘When You Were Young’. Watch fan-shot footage of those performances above and below.

Yesterday (April 27), The Killers were joined on stage in Brisbane by The Vines’ drummer Hamish Rosser after he was picked out of the crowd. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the drummer was flashing a sign. As he was getting on stage, Flowers said: “I think that’s Hamish from The Vines.”

Rosser then drummed on ‘For Reasons Unknown’, while The Killers’ drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr played guitar on the track.

Meanwhile, The Killers recently announced that they are to release a career-spanning box set on vinyl. ‘The Killers Career Vinyl Box’ will be released in a 180-gram black vinyl configuration on June 15, and contains all five albums releases from the Las Vegas rockers, from 2004’s ‘Hot Fuss’ to 2017’s ‘Wonderful Wonderful‘.

Along with all five records, the impressive collection also includes ‘Sawdust’, the band’s November 2007 collection of B-sides, covers, remixes, and covers including Joy Division’s ‘Shadowplay’. It will also feature ‘Live From The Royal Albert Hall’a two-disc LP featuring a recording of their gigs at the iconic London venue in July 2009.
