Google Drive update: Search engine giant launches time-saving feature, here’s how it works

Google Drive is making it easier than ever before for users to share files with one another.

The search engine giant has revealed that they've introduced a new feature which helps Google Drive fans share the right files with the right people.

This is thanks to the newly updated access checker, which Google have tinkered with this month.

Now, when Google Drive users go to share a document or file through e-mail or a calendar invite they will notice something different.

The built-in access checker has been updated to show the names and e-mail addresses of anyone you’re including who does not have permission to view it.

It also "will anticipate who needs access to a file and intelligently default to sharing with those recipients only."

Google Drive users will then be greeted with a prompt which suggests granting access to the user in question.

Announcing the new feature in a blog post, Google said: “Google Drive makes it easy to share files through Gmail, Calendar, and other apps with a feature called “Access checker.”

“When you send an email, calendar invite, or other communication that includes a Drive file, Access checker automatically looks to see if the people you’re sending the message to have permissions to view the file.

“If they don’t, Access checker asks if you want to change the permissions before you share the file.”

Google went on to say: “You can share with these intelligent default settings in just one click, or choose a different sharing option for the file.

“Before, the default share option was “turn link sharing on.”

“We hope this change makes it easier for you to ensure that only the right people have permission to access your files.”

They added: “These updates are based on your feedback, and we hope they deliver a sharing experience that is simple, secure, and anticipates your users’ needs.”

In other Google news, Express.co.uk revealed that Google included a new feature in its Chrome browser at the end of last night.

However, users who have uncovered the functionality are not happy about the changes.

The new functionality comes as a result of upgrades to the Chrome Cleanup Tool last year.

The latter scans users’ machine in an attempt to detect malware that could target the Chrome web browser itself, Motherboard claims.

If Google discovers anything dangerous on your computer, it will ask permission to delete the software.

It appears Chrome isn’t doing anything malicious when it trawls through users’ files, however, it has caused alarm amongst some web browser users.
