The US Coalition launched an operation to liberate the last strongholds of the IG in Syria
 

WASHINGTON, May 1 - RIA Novosti. The Western coalition led by the United States and local partners in Syria are launching an operation to liberate the last strongholds of the "Islamic state," State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said.

"The United States, the world coalition and local partners, including the Syrian democratic forces, are launching an operation to liberate the last IG strongholds in Syria," Naouert said in a statement.

She noted that "the struggle will be difficult," but the US and its partners will "win."

"We will defend the US, the coalition and partner forces in case of an attack." The days of IG control over the territories and the terror of the Syrian people are coming to an end, "the State Department spokeswoman said.

Naouert also added that the US intends to work with partners to ensure the security of Turkey, Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon from the IG.

The Western coalition led by the United States has been operating in Syrian territory since 2014 without official permission from Damascus and UN Security Council resolutions.
