'Gone Girl' Copyright Infringement Suit Gets The Boot

Law360 (May 21, 2018, 9:33 PM EDT) -- An Illinois federal judge on Monday tossed copyright infringement claims lobbed by a woman who claimed “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn

wrongly stole from a screenplay she wrote years before, saying her alleged infringements are too general to warrant protection.

U.S. District Judge Robert Blakey ruled Leslie Weller does not have a valid infringement claim over her

screenplay “Out of the Blue,” nicknamed “OTB3” in pleadings,

because her lawsuit failed to demonstrate how Flynn would have gained access to her alleged original work.
