Ubisoft Will Have A Secret AAA Title At E3

Ubisoft apparently has some big plans for this year's E3. And no, it's not just another setup to showcase Beyond Good and Evil 2 and The Crew 2. There are, apparently, plans to unleash a brand new game at this year's E3 and it's a secret AAA title.

Game Informer is reporting that during the financial earnings call, Ubisoft revealed that it will be releasing a slew of major AAA releases this year, including The Crew 2and The Division 2. Both games will headline this year's E3. Ubisoft will also unveil a brand new AAA that is not the pirate-sailing game, Skull & Bones.

So, what is the new game? Well, Game Informer notes that a retailer leak for Wal-Mart Canada suggested that one of the upcoming games set to release this year is a brand new Assassin's Creed title. Could it be that Ubisoft is going back to the annual cycle of releasing the stealth-oriented, action-platforming games?

Last year we saw the return of Assassin's Creed under the title of Assassin's Creed: Origins after the franchise took a hiatus in 2016. Ubisoft replaced the video game with a movie outing that was produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures. The movie starred Michael Fassbender in the lead role but was poorly received by critics and fans alike due to the typical video game movie curse that plagues most productions.

The reason for the hiatus of Assassin's Creed in 2016 was the fact that the previous year's outing, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, did not sell as well as Ubisoft had hoped, and the company chose to give it a break due to the fatigue that had set in with the market.

Things definitely picked back up with the release of Assassin's Creed: Origins, but if Ubisoft isn't careful it could find itself right back in the same situation from 2015 where gamers become fatigued on the series and are unwilling to buy into the game... unless of course the developers do something absolutely amazing with the franchise.

Alternatively, it could be some completely new IP. Ubisoft is one of the few publishers to actually branch out and throw lots of new ideas at the wall, even if they don't always stick. The Crew 2 is a perfect example of that kind of ingenuity being applied to its software line-up. The game mixes airplanes, boats and land vehicles together into a seamless open-world racing sandbox.

Technically, there's no way to know what Ubisoft might come up with. Last year the company introduced gamers to Skull & Bones, a multiplayer naval combat simulator based around the seafaring antics found in Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Some people think that perhaps another Watch Dogs sequel could be on the horizon, but there's really no way to know for sure what could be on the horizon. Given that Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle 2 just came out last year, it's unlikely that a new Raving Rabbids could be in the works, but maybe there's a brand new Rayman game in the pipeline?
